Liliana is a degree qualified engineer that had over 24 years of experience in manufacturing prior to a career break. Liliana joined Dow in June 2022 through the STEM Returners programme as an Asset Integrity Engineer.
Tell us a little bit about you.
I am a Mechanical Engineer from Romania with 24 years of experience in Automotive and General Fasteners. I have a great interest in Project Management and I enrolled myself in two courses of Prince 2 and CAPM in London.
What is your working background? If you like tell us about your career break.
In the last 8 years in the UK, I worked as Shift Coordinator in food industry for 5 years and 2 years as Documentation Compliance Coordinator – Project Officer in pharma industry.
What barriers have you faced when applying for engineering roles?
I had applied many times for engineering roles but I was rejected every time, without any reason. I understood that it is very hard to penetrate in the men’s world and I gave up focusing myself on Projects.
Why did you approach STEM Returners?
I was approached by STEM Returners for a job of Mechanical Engineer and very soon I was called for an interview.
How did STEM Returners help?
STEM Returners was the bridge between me and the company and also I received support and coaching in everything I was interested in.
How has this changed your career?
After a tough recruitment process the job was given to me and I have the opportunity to use my knowledge and experience gained in almost 30 years of work. Also, the role is challenging and provides an opportunity of learning and experience.
