Muhammed Nisar moved to the UK in 2017 with a background in the construction industry, but despite playing an important part in developments such as the TFL Baker Street two way project, he wanted a career relevant to his HND in electrical engineering.
What was your working background?
I previously worked in Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) construction as well as a number of positions in the Maintenance industry when I came to the UK.
How did you find out about STEM returners?
I heard about STEM Returners online when searching for jobs, I saw the programmes they offered and applied for a place on the BT returners scheme.
What did STEM returners do to help?
Natalie and the team helped me to get back into the engineering industry and I finally feel like I am in a good place with my career.
What was the end result?
Amazing. Once I had completed my 12 week paid returners programme I was offered a permanent role in the team at BT, something I couldn’t have dreamed of a few months earlier!
How has this changed your career?
STEM Returners allowed me not just to find a position that I was qualified for, but also to find a job that allowed me to settle into life in the UK after almost a year of searching.
Would you recommend the programme?
I would recommend a STEM Returners programme 100 percent. If anyone wants to achieve his or her dream of a job in engineering, technology, science or maths then a returners programme is definitely for them.
