In April 2022, Aquila Nuclear Engineering, a Cyclife EDF group subsidiary, launched a pilot STEM Returners programme at their site near Winchester, Hampshire.
STEM Returners is delighted to congratulate Renu on the role as Mechanical Design Engineer, Aquila Nuclear Engineering’s first returner to secure a permanent position within their organisation.
How did you find out about the STEM Returners Programme?
I registered my resume with many of the job searching platforms and WES (Women’s Engineering Society) was one of them. I found this programme through WES.
Tell us a little bit about your experience before joining the Programme.
I have earned my degree in Mechanical engineering in 2006. I have 7 years of experience and my last role was senior mechanical design engineer with one of the shipyards in India before taking career break to raise my son.
Why did you apply for the Aquila Nuclear Engineering Returners Programme?
I found returning to technical workforce very hard because of career break. STEM Returners programme was best suitable option for me to restart as It provided an opportunity to brush up my skills and develop new one as well to bridge the career gap.
How has the Programme helped you restart your career?
STEM Returners have many openings for returners in different field to choose to restart. I have applied for relevant roles, and I have been supported and encouraged. It was the biggest help I got from programme.
How do you feel about the support offered by Aquila Nuclear Engineering as a company?
It was a great team effort and continuous support throughout my journey. I felt very supportive.
What has happened since joining the Programme?
Since joining the programme, I have been checked and supported by the entire team. I have been frequently contacted to check how I was doing, by phone, emails, and video calls, which was very thoughtful.
What advice would you give to someone trying to return from a career break?
A little break doesn’t mean end of your career, your skills and expertise need little bit brush up and STEM returners programme is one of the best platforms to restart.
